Work Permits

Student work permits are required for minors who are seeking employment while attending school. Students in need of a work permit will be supported at the school sites during the school year.  When school is out of session, during holiday breaks and summer, Student Welfare & Success can issue work permits on the following schedule, M - F from 8:00am-12:00pm or 2:00pm-4:00pm at the TVUSD District Office: 31350 Rancho Vista Rd.  Building 13 (Please use the Centralized Enrollment Center entrance at Building 13)

Work Permit Instructions

A STUDENT MUST ALREADY BE HIRED BEFORE A WORK PERMIT CAN BE ISSUED
ONCE HIRED:
  1. The student, employer and parent must complete the STATEMENT OF INTENT TO EMPLOY A MINOR AND REQUEST FOR A WORK PERMIT–CERTIFICATE OF AGE CDE Form B1-1 (Rev. 02-14). There are a few different ways a student can get this form. 

  • From the new hiring employer
  • From the following link: CA Department of Education website 
  • From a school site representative (during holiday breaks and summer, the district office/Student Welfare & Success representative can provide it.)
  1. This must be completed before a work permit can be issued.
     

  2. Be sure to check each line of the form.   
     

  3. The employer must complete & sign their section:“To be filled in and signed by the employer”
     

  4. Parent/legal guardian must have signed their section.
     

  5. The school or district representative will complete the bottom section – maximum hours allowed to work and verify the student’s date of birth.
     

  6. The signed original goes to the school/district representative, who will prepare & issue the actual Work Permit for the student/minor’s signature.
     

  7. The school/district rep. will make copies of the completed work permit and distribute them accordingly.
