March 18-22

The last week of school before break will be spent finishing up our current writing unit with an essay exam.

FRESHMEN: THIS EXAM IS YOUR DISTRICT WRITING BENCHMARK, MEANING THAT ALTHOUGH IT IS A TEST, IT IS NOT SCORED AS HEAVILY AS A FINAL BECAUSE IT IS A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR PROGRESS. HOWEVER, IT IS STILL AN IMPORTANT GRADE.

SOPHOMORES: THIS IS AN END OF UNIT EXAM, MEANING THAT SINCE YOU HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PRACTICES WITH THE SOAPSTR ORGANIZER AND DEVELOPING YOUR INTRO PARAGRPHS, IT IS IMPORTANT TO DEMONSTRATE WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED IN YOUR INTRO AND WHAT YOU HAVE RETAINED REGARDING HOW TO WRITE THE BODY AND CONCLUSION OF AN ESSAY. YOUR GRAPHIC ORGANIZER FOR PARGRAPHS 2-4 ARE THS SAME FORMAT AS THE OTHER ESSAYS YOU HAVE WRITTEN SO FAR THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

The following schedule is the same for both Freshmen and Sophomore classes:

Monday - annotate your speech and label and highlight rhetoric within the text

Tuesday - Finish annotations and highlighting rhetoric, then use the SOAPSTR organizer to develop the introduction paragraph.

Wednesday- Use the SOAPSTR to write paragraph one (intro). Continue writing paragraphs 2-4 using the organizer (same format as you are used to).

Thursday - use the organizer for the body of your essay and the conclusion (same format as you are used to). Self edit using the list of common issues to look out for in your writing (located on the whiteboard).

Friday - Type your essay and submit it to Turnitin.com

HAVE A WONDERFUL BREAK! YOU DESERVE IT!!!
