Student BYOD Electronic Device Agreement
Technology has become an essential part of education here at TMS. To be able to live, learn, and work successfully in our information-rich society, students must be able to utilize technology effectively. Many students’ lives today are filled with technology that gives them unlimited access to information and resources, enabling them to pursue their interests in their own way and at their own pace. The opportunities are limitless, borderless, and instantaneous.
In the past, the use of computing devices not owned by the school district has been forbidden during the school day. With many students owning mobile computing devices and frequently using these devices for their school work while at home, the district has recognized the need to allow students to utilize their own technology in a more seamless way at school. In an effort to put students at the center and empower them to take control of their own learning, the Temecula Valley Unified School District is investigating an option that would allow students to use personal technology devices for educational use while at school.
TVUSD schools have been piloting the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program at various sites since 2012. We are now ready to have all students have the opportunity to BYOD. They will be able to bring their own mobile computing devices to school for use in their classes. This procedural change allows students wider use of their own technology. A filtered Internet connection will be provided for students to use for educational purposes, but please keep in mind that our I.T. staff cannot install software, apps, or certificates on a BYOD device. This may limit our ability to filter for inappropriate searches on those devices. Students and parents will need to be aware of the district policy surrounding BYOD and will need to register this device by completing the TVUSD Student BYOD Electronic Device Agreement, and returning it to the TMS Library/Media Center before a device is used at school.
NOTE: The student is solely responsible for any equipment that he/she brings to school. The Temecula Valley Unified School District is not liable for damaged, lost, or stolen equipment. All devices that will be used on the school Internet connection must be registered with the district. Temecula Valley Unified School District staff are unable to provide technical support for personal devices brought to school. All students must adhere to the Acceptable Use and Electronic Devices Policies. When students use technology inappropriately while on the school network, the same consequences apply, regardless of who owns the device.
