What is the difference between Personal Necessity and Personal Business leave? (CL employees.)

Classified employees can take up to 7 days as Personal Necessity (PN) time each school year. The time pulls from your sick leave balance, as you only get one bank of paid time off. To use PN time, an Employee Leave Request form is required. The form requires you to state what the reason is for the absences. There are some exclusions listed on the form, so please verify its uses before completing it and requesting this type of time off. The form needs to be approved by your site admin and then Human Resources.

Of those 7 PN days, classified employees can take up to 3 of them as Personal Business (PB). PB still pulls from your sick leave balance. PB requires a Personal Business Leave Request form to be completed and 72 hours advanced notice. It does not require you to state the reason for the absences. The form needs to be approved by your site admin and then Human Resources.

Less than 12 month/8 hour employees do not earn vacation leave (paid time off) until they reach their 5th year with TVUSD. Beginning with your 5th anniversary, you will start to accrue longevity vacation. The first year will be prorated based on the month of your anniversary. Then, every July thereafter, you will be fronted longevity vacation for the upcoming school year, similar to sick leave.
