Interdistrict Transfer Request Into TVUSD: For Students NOT Currently Enrolled

UPDATES:

2025/26 School Year:
Available now, based on space availability.
Notifications will be sent via email based on space availability. 

2026/27 School Year:
Available now.
Notifications:

  • Request received up to 15 days before the school year starts: Responses will receive response by June 2026, or no later than 14 days after the first day of school. 
  • Request received 15 days before the school the school year starts or later: Responses will be sent as soon as possible, no later than 30 days after the receipt of the approval from from your home district. 

Students from Murrieta and San Diego County Districts

As of the 2022–2023 school year, Interdistrict Transfer requests between TVUSD and the following districts are approved for the entire grade span (elementary, middle, or high school):

  • Murrieta Valley Unified School District
  • All school districts within San Diego County

Once approved, students from these districts only need to submit renewal requests when entering:

  • Middle school (6th grade)

  • High school (9th grade)

Note: Students from all other districts must continue to submit yearly renewal requests up to, and including, 10th grade.


STEPS TO FOLLOW FOR

INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS

Please complete all steps (1–4). Failure to do so may result in your request being considered abandoned.

STEP 1: Submit the Online Portion

  • Complete the online request for the school year you are requesting:

  • A copy of the submitted online form will be emailed to you. (Check your spam folder if you don’t see it.)

STEP 2: Obtain Required Documents

2A: Interdistrict Transfer Request Form

(Also called “Attendance Permit” or “Release”)

Check your district using the Riverside County School District Locator

  • Murrieta District Residents:

    • Access the Interdistrict Transfer form, here.

    • Submit the completed form in PDF format with a handwritten signature, along with any additional documents from Step 2B, to: transfers@tvusd.us

Residents of All Other Districts:

  • Visit your district’s website or contact them to obtain an approved Interdistrict Transfer form.

  • Most districts will send the approved form directly to TVUSD.

  • You may also email your signed PDF form, along with any additional documents from Step 2B, to: transfers@tvusd.us

2B: Additional Required Documents

Note: Let your child’s current school know these copies are for a transfer request, not enrollment.

  • TK / Kindergarten:

    • If applicable, copy of signed, annual Special Education IEP

    • No other documents required

  • 1st – 5th Grade:

    • Most recent attendance report

    • Most recent discipline report (or note/email from school regarding discipline)

    • If applicable, copy of signed, annual Special Education IEP

  • 6th – 9th Grade:

    • Most recent attendance report

    • Most recent discipline report (or note/email from school regarding discipline)

    • Most recent grade report

    • If applicable, copy of signed, annual Special Education IEP

  • 10th – 12th Grade:

    • Most recent attendance report

    • Most recent discipline report (or note/email from school regarding discipline)

    • Most recent unofficial transcript

    • If applicable, copy of signed, annual Special Education IEP

STEP 3: Submit All Documents

  • Submit all documents from Steps 2A and 2B at the same time via email in PDF format to: transfers@tvusd.us

 

STEP 4: Wait for a Response

  • Transfer requests are subject to space availability in the requested school, grade, and/or program.

  • If approved, we will attempt to honor your requested school, but TVUSD reserves the right to place students at any school in the district.

Notification timelines:

  • Requests received up to 15 days before the school year starts: Response sent as soon as possible, no later than 14 days after the first day of school.

  • Requests received 15 days before the school year starts or later: Response sent as soon as possible, no later than 30 days after receipt of the approved form from your home district.

 IMPORTANT:
  • Do NOT unenroll or withdraw your child from your current school until you receive approval to attend a TVUSD school.

  • Parents should plan for their child to attend their district of residence until approval is confirmed.
