Mr. Creighton Morrison

Greetings! My name is Creighton Morrison and I teach a variety of Drama/Theatre classes for all grades 9th-12th here at Great Oak High School. In addition to that, I also spearhead and advise the Great Oak Theatre Company (GOTC) as well as GOTC'ss improv troupe "The Laugh Pack". I've been in the TVUSD school district for a decade or so now and intend on being here till I retire!

Understanding theatre helps us understand what it means to be human. Humans are the only species on earth that has theatre and every group of people on the earth has some form of it! Through theatre we learn self-expression, self-knowledge, self-empowerment and creativity. Beyond the individual, theatre/drama can teach us how to respectfully work in a group setting, because by definition, "theatre is a collaborative art".

The educational power of theatre is unparalleled. Through the lens of theatre we can learn a global perspective and understand people and cultures other than our own. Theatre is also, often a catalyst for social change. Theatre is known to hold a mirror up to society and as such, the stage becomes a place where we can examine the problems that confront society and attempt to solve them.

I strive give students the opportunity to experience theatre from the perspective of not just an audience member, but as a creator as well. This is not just limited to the field of acting but encompasses directing, stage design, technical theatre and more. I endeavor to create a safe classroom environment where students can discover new things about the art as well as themselves.

On stage, we put on a "play"... in my classroom I ask students to do just that, play. You don't have to be a "good actor" to be in my class. School is about learning new things... come and give it your all, apply the lessons in class, do the work, come and play! If my students do that, they will always succeed.

Thank you, Mr. Morrison
