Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to a new school year at Bella Vista Middle School!  This year is probably the most important year for your child in school.  This school year is vital because it is a time to prepare your child for the challenges of high school.  In preparation of the transition, it is very important that the student realizes their personal responsibilities in the learning process and they approach their education seriously. In addition, daily attendance in my class is important. I have attached my classroom expectations. Please take time to read the information.

When students are absent, it is their responsibility to check and see what work they missed while they were out.  Assignments are posted in Weekly Work daily and my back whiteboard for students to check upon their return.  Absent work will be accepted without penalty. Students are given two days to make up their work for each day of school they miss.  In cases of prolonged absences, please contact me. If you plan to take your child out of school for an extended period and wish work for them to complete while absent, please arrange for an independent study contract from the office.  Please allow 3- 4 days for the teachers to complete the independent study contract. All tests and quizzes missed while absent must be made up by the end of the week the student returns to school.  It is the student’s responsibility to see me about making up tests and quizzes.

Grades are posted on a regular basis and allow you constant access.  There will be no weekly or biweekly grade reports coming home. If you do not have access to the Internet, your child may go to the Media Center at BVMS to check his/her grades on the computers. Students will also have the use of Chromebooks in the classroom and will be able to check their grades.

Please feel free to contact me by email, the preferred method, (  Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled by appointment only, during regular school hours. The use of a weekly planner is essential to your child’s organization and tracking of current assignments along with corresponding due dates.  As a team, we can work toward individual educational success!

I sincerely appreciate your time and support!  I believe that Bella Vista Middle School is an excellent institution of learning and I will do my best to provide your child with a positive, learning environment that guarantees equal access to education for all students.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly. I look forward to a great school year!

Most sincerely yours,

Kristine Stefanyshyn
