Mrs. Kimberly Atkinson

Hello my name is Kimberly Atkinson and I am in my 27th year teaching elementary school. I began teaching at the age of seven, unfortunately for my two younger cousins who were coerced into the task of being my star students. Despite my efforts to use my best teaching practices, my cousins were more than thrilled when I earned my teaching credential and enabled them to retire their positions to my future students. In fact the antique desk I used for my make-believe classroom is now in my classroom library. This desk my uncle refinished for my cousins and then again refinished for my own children. I grew up in Costa Mesa and attended Mater Dei High School. I played volleyball, basketball, and softball all through high school. In college I rowed crew and played basketball as well.  After college I went back to Mater Dei and then Santa Margarita High School to coach girls basketball. It is important for me to share my history involved in athletics, as it is definitely what has formed me into the teacher I am today. I began teaching in 1994 and I hold a Bachelor's in Education, a Masters in Curriculum Instruction, a California Teaching Credential, as well as CLAD and GATE certification. My philosophies in the classroom are centered around teamwork and focusing on our strengths. Working together to achieve our goals, there is always so many things we can learn and accomplish together.
