Hello Room 17 Families!
Wow! We had such a great time celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday and Literacy all last week! I hope your children had fun with all the special dress up days!
Please save the date of Monday, March 16, when 1st grade parents will be invited to share lunch and visit the Book Fair at school with their kids! The Spring Book Fair offers great deals, as it is usually "buy one, get one free!" Also, please join us on Thursday, March 19 in Room 17 between 6:00-7:00 p.m. for Open House! The children are SO EXCITED to show you all their special projects!
In ELA, we will have our Unit 4 assessment week. We will review Unit 4 skills, and will be assessing High Frequency Words and phonics patterns Units 1-4 for Progress Reports. I know "spring fever" may be setting in for some children (and adults!), but please make sure students are reading daily, and studying unknown sight words, as well. It really shows in their progress when they are regularly doing their most important 1st grade homework - nightly reading to a parent.
In Math, we will begin our next Unit on Geometry, Parts of a Whole, and Time. As always, it is important to keep math facts (adding/subtracting) fresh to build for future success. Students can access Fact Fluency practice via their Clever badges in both Moby Max, and via Math Seeds. Flashcard games can also be helpful.
We are looking forward to a wonderful week!
