Commander William Lauper

Commander Lauper is the Senior Naval Science Teacher for the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) at Chaparral High School in Temecula, California, which has been named a Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors for the past ten years.  Chaparral NJROTC Cadets compete in Drill, CyberPatriot, SeaPerch (underwater robotics), College Options Foundation/JLAB Academic Bowl, Orienteering, air rifle marksmanship, drones (sUAS), NJROTC Brain Brawl, and Quizbowl (academics).  This is Commander Lauper’s tenth year of teaching NJROTC, having previously taught NJROTC at Troy High School in Fullerton, CA and Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, CA. He was commissioned in 1993 through the NROTC, University of Wisconsin and served twenty years as a Surface Warfare Officer. He has also previously taught at the college level as the Executive Officer and Associate Professor of Naval Science at the University of Minnesota and Assistant Professor of Naval Science at the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps, The Ohio State University. Commander Lauper was also selected by the Dean of Admissions to serve as the United States Naval Academy Blue and Gold Officer and Area Coordinator
