Ms. Grace Donnelly

Hello!

My name is Ms. Grace Donnelly! I am the ceramics teacher of Chaparral High School!

About Me:

I am an alumni of Chaparral High School, Class of 2015! I graduated from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame with a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art. I began my teaching career at my alma mater in Fall of 2019 and have been teaching ceramics since!

About Ceramics:

In Ceramics 1A/1B, students learn primary hand building skills, throwing skills, the elements of art, and principles of design. The first three projects traditionally focus on each of the 3 handbuilding skills: pinch pots, slabs, and coils. The throwing unit can be divided into two categories of learning: practicing and project-making. Students traditionally spend a few weeks practicing throwing skills and then, students are given project topics (i.e. 5 mugs, 3 bowls, plates, etc).

Overall, ceramics is a versatile subject area and class. Throughout the year, we work to develop the following skills: problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, discussion, inquiry-based learning, and more! Ceramics is dynamic and is able to integrate primary concepts from math, science, English, history, and more. In addition to this, ceramics is a great way to get better at working with your hands.
