Welcome to California’s first ever Clean Air Day! The Coalition for Clean Air, founded in 1971, has a history of success when it comes to air quality issues including creating California’s original Smog Check program in 1981 and ensuring a national ban on “perc”, a toxic dry cleaning chemical. They’ve even helped pass legislation to get 1 million electric vehicles on California roads by 2025! This year they are taking on a statewide effort to show just how easy it is for individuals and organizations to clear the air. This endeavor is the first of its kind and “provides an easy, fun way for every Californian to get involved.” People across the state will be combining their efforts to improve the health of their communities and are asked to pledge to clear the air!
If you’d like to pledge to clear the air this October 3 rd , you can do so by clicking the link here!
Guys! We have a Twitter account AND we’re going to start using it! That’s right. We’re not sure what this platform is going to look like for us yet, but we’re excited to bring you all more updates (and jokes obviously) in a different format that may be more applicable to your everyday life! You can find us at @TVUSDEnergy by following this link!
Be sure to follow us and if you don’t have a Twitter account, don’t fret! You can still get our updates sent to your phone as a text message without evening having to sign up for Twitter (and the best part is you can stop them at any time too). Send a text message to 40404 and put in the body of the text “Follow @TVUSDEnergy” and voila! You will now be following your favorite Energy Team and all of our fun shenanigans! We are going to be bringing you all some great (condensed) content in this Challenge year and we hope you’ll join us for the ride!
On Tuesday morning, May 8th, 2018, the Energy Team had the opportunity to join Temecula's Sunrise Rotary Club at Pechanga for their weekly meeting. One of the members, Marti Treckman, reached out to us after years of wanting to learn about our program and asked us to come in and speak to the group on all that the team has been up to! She had this article in mind when asking us to speak and we are so grateful that she thought our story was one of interest! You can find the article by following this link.
For those of you who may not know, Sunrise Rotary Club was established in 1987 and has had programs over the years that have benefited the cities of Temecula, Riverside, and San Bernardino; as well as many more around the world. The club has given out more than $250,000 in scholarships to local students, conducts a literacy program, sends local students to Rotary Leadership Camp, sponsors Interact at Chaparral High School, and so much more!
We had so much fun getting to know the members and enjoying breakfast with them. We hope to come back in the future!
If you would like to learn more about the Sunrise Rotary Club, you can find their website by following this link.

Congratulations to TVUSD's Newest Green Ribbon Award Schools! We are proud to announce that this year, Temecula Valley Unified had three schools that received the California Green Ribbon Schools recognition award! Those schools and their award levels are as follows:
· Rancho Vista High School: Gold
· Ysabel Barnett Elementary: Silver
· Paloma Elementary: Silver
Rancho Vista HS is one of only four gold level winners in the state! Only 31 total schools and districts were recognized in the state and TVUSD has 3!
The California Green Ribbon Schools recognition award honors schools, school districts, and Institutes of Higher Education for excellence in resource efficiency, health, and wellness, and environmental and sustainability education. The recognition award is part of a larger effort to identify and communicate practices that result in improved student engagement, academic achievement, graduation rates, and workforce preparedness; and reinforces federal efforts to increase energy independence and economic security.
Rancho Vista, Barnett, and Paloma join Great Oak in receiving this award bringing Temecula Valley’s awards up to four in the past two years! This is quite the accomplishment for these sites and for our district as a whole as it highlights the conservation efforts individual sites have implemented as well as what the district has done to assist those sites in being more environmentally friendly.
