• Participation (60%): Daily participation/effort level on a daily 10-point scale.  Student is graded on being on task and giving their best effort. We want every student to have the opportunity to succeed in Physical Education.  I will be looking for effort in activities and a committment to building motor, manipulative, social, aerobic, strength and endurance and leadership skills during PE.  I also understand that each student has varying motivations toward different skills and activities so each student has a great opportunity to earn a great grade based off every type of athletic abilities.  If student is ill or injured, they will need to communicate with teacher prior to activity so the teacher can modify the activity as needed--all injuries/illnesses must be verified by guardian in writing by the following day unless injury occurs in class with teacher present to witness.  Absences will be recorded as "0" points until make up work is turned in to teacher. Participation grades will be updated on IC every 2 weeks.
    • Runs/Fitness (20%): Each run grade will be based on varying criteria from week to week. Fitness grading scale is derived from the state Fitnessgram's "Healthy Fitness Zone" and is gender specific.  Run grade is separate from effort grade and will be made up in class with teacher.  Make up runs are not guaranteed to have same criteria as "run day," as teacher needs to monitor both make ups and whole class activity simultaneously.  If a student is in medical PE for a period of 3 weeks or more, he/she will have the option (if time allows) of making up missed run day tasks in order to earn a letter grade rather than a "pass/fail." Run/Fitness grades will be updated on IC every 2 weeks.
    • Fitness Logs (10%): Students will be required to complete a fitness log each week.  This assignment can be found on Canvas.  It is completed and turned in on Canvas as well. Fitness Logs will be updated on IC weekly.
    • Quizzes (10%): In addition to Fitness Logs, there will be occasional quizzes posted to Canvas. More than likely it will be a video quiz at the start of each unit. Students will be reminded in class to complete their online work. Quizzes will be updated on IC as they are assigned.
    • Make-Up Work: If a student misses a day of class they need to complete the make-up form and turn it in within one week of the absence.  To make-up for the absence the student needs to complete 30 minutes of exercise.  Please write what activity you completed, the duration of the exercise period and sign and date with a parent signature to return.  If your child has baseball, basketball, football, volleyball, softball practice, they can use that as their completed exercise for make-ups.  Again just explain the exercise, duration, date and time, sign and return.  To access the make-up form please go to the Canvas page.
