Welcome to AP Physics 1!
This is an introductory, college level, algebra-based physics course covering the basics of classical mechanics. This is a challenging course, but it is very fun and rewarding. Students will be expected to complete daily homework assignments in order to master the material and keep pace with learning. I employ active learning methods in this, as in all of my classes, as research has consistently shown that students learn physics best when they are actively engaged in the learning process. As a result, this class is a lot of fun and students make a lot of learning gains.
Students, be sure to join our class Remind, and check Canvas daily for this course. I will post all assignments, grades, and discussions on Canvas. Updates are sent by Remind. In addition, we will make use of the resources in the AP classroom that the college board has made available for you. Your learning is an extremely high priority for me and we will work together as a team to help you meet your goals for this course. There is a brief summer assignment that is meant to help you review the basic math skills we will use in this class. If you have questions or are struggling with this assignment, please ask for help! I will hold study sessions in my classroom during the first weeks of school for students who need extra support.
Parents, please be sure to check email communication, but know that, as this is a college-level course, I expect my students to be in contact with me and to advocate for their own needs as much as possible. I will send you important updates regarding deadlines for registering for the AP exams, etc. I encourage all of my students to register for and plan to take the AP exam, regardless of where their educational path may lead.
Please know that I love to hear from my students' parents and am always happy to answer any questions you may have.
