TVUSD Announces Governing Board of Education Vacancy - The Application Period is Now Closed

On June 27, 2019, Board of Education trustee Adam Skumawitz resigned his position, effective immediately.
The resignation creates a vacancy on the Temecula Valley Unified School District Board of Education. The Board met on July 16, 2019, and approved a provisional appointment process to fill the vacant position. The term of the provisional appointment will expire in November 2020. At that time, the appointed candidate may seek election to fill the remainder of the trustee's term through November 2022.
The District is now accepting applications from qualified persons who would like to be considered for appointment. Applications are due by Friday, August 2, 2019, by 4:30 p.m.For more information on this vacancy, please contact the secretary to the Superintendent, Debra Jilek at (951) 506-7904.

Qualified candidates must be:
- A California registered voter residing in the boundaries of Temecula Valley Unified School District – Trustee Area Four – (It is your responsibility to confirm that you reside in Trustee Area Four) - see map below.
- At least 18 years of age
- Not disqualified by the constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office
- Not an employee of the Temecula Valley Unified School District
- Available on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 4:00 p.m. to attend the Board meeting and participate in the public interview process
If a TVUSD employee applies and is selected to fill the position, their employment would be terminated upon being sworn into office.

What are the qualifications for serving on the Board?
A person must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of Temecula Valley Unified School District- Trustee Area Four, at least 18 years old, and a registered voter.What is the term of the provisional appointment?
The term of the provisional appointment will expire in November 2020. At that time, the appointed candidate may seek election to fill the remainder of the trustee's term through November 2022.What do I need to apply for the position?
The Governing Board is accepting applications which include a Qualification Form and Application. The application packet is available online or candidates may pick up the packet at the District Office 31350 Rancho Vista Road, Temecula.The completed application packet must be received in the District Office no later than 4:30 p.m. on August 2, 2019. Applicants must be available for public interviews with the Board at an open meeting Tuesday, August 6, 2019 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
If I am selected by the Board, when do I take office and when do I run for election? It is anticipated that the appointed member would be sworn in on August 6, 2019, following the public interview process and appointment by the Board.
During the initial 10 days after the appointment, the Board will notify the community of the vacancy and provisional appointment, including the name of the new Board member. The appointment will become final in 30 days unless a petition is filed with the Riverside County Superintendent of Schools requesting an election, in which case a special election will be called to fill a vacancy.After the appointment becomes final, the Board member will serve until November 2020, at which time he or she may run for election to complete the former Board member’s original term, until November 2022.
What other information should I consider?
Serving on the school board can be a valuable and satisfying way to make a significant contribution to the community. The Board, staff, parent and student community enjoy a professional, collaborative relationship.As public officials, Board members do have to comply with certain restrictions not encountered in their private lives. Upon assuming office, a Board member must file a Statement of Economic Interest which is a public document that discloses the Board member’s financial holdings and other economic interests within the boundaries of the District (excluding a personal residence). Board members must refrain from Board activities which constitute a conflict of interest or which are incompatible with their role as Board member.
Election campaigns are completely separate from district activities and the candidate must fund their campaign with private contributions in accordance with the rules of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
Is there compensation for serving as a Board Trustee?
Yes, Board trustees receive a monthly stipend of $898.20 and they are eligible for participation in a benefits package made available to all eligible district employees.Where can I get additional information on the role and responsibility of a Board Member?
