Dear Prospective Member,
Being a junior or senior with a Grade Point Average of 3.8 or higher meets the minimum requirements for membership in Chaparral NHS. Please note: meeting this criteria is not a guarantee of admission. The application process is extremely selective and determined by a Faculty Panel who will review all applications that meet the four pillars of NHS below.
Applicants will be scored on the following criteria.
Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 on a weighted scale and show a history of academically challenging coursework.
This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit. The primary motivation for the activity must be to benefit others rather than to promote self-interest. Ideally, service activities help the community as a whole without regard to race, religion, or other criteria.
Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others. Leadership is defined as elected or appointed position held in or out of school in which the student was directly responsible for directing or motivating others.
The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle. Citizenship marks will also be reviewed; N’s or U’s will disqualify an applicant.
Applications are available on the Chaparral High School website. Please pay close attention to due date and application requirements.
