  • Supplies Needed

*2 pocket folder (simple 2 pocket- no binders or clips inside needed) devoted to math only. Plastic or plastic-coated folders should last all year.  It will hold current work and blank paper- so students are always ready.

*Composition book that is for math only.  Composition books have stitching in the bind, so pages are not easily torn out.  This will be for math only and will be added to all year.

*Color pens- Red and blue.  We do a lot of color coding in our math work. I have extra pens in the classroom for borrowing, but students often like to pick and use their own and not share

Additional supplies helpful: scissors, glue stick, crayons, hand-held pencil sharpener, and stapler.

These things are available in the classroom, but students may need to wait and share.  It is nice to have their own at their disposal when needed.

    Looking to donate something?

Boxes of tissues for noses would be helpful! We do provide tissues, but they are not very soft, and with the dry weather comes sniffles and chapped noses.

Composition books are always a helpful donation, as well as anything listed in the supplies

  • Testing

Students can expect a quiz/test most weeks.  Typically short and gives me feedback as to flow of the class and whether someone may need immediate intervention. Summative tests (unit tests, finals, etc.) are longer than weekly quizzes.

Quizzes will be replaced by the following week's quiz.  This takes away any "punishment" for a low test score as we are learning math content.  For example, the beginning ratio quiz given will be replaced by the following week's ratio quiz.  More practice will have been done by then and students have an immediate chance to bring up their grades. Keeping an average makes it very difficult to overcome a poor score.

This is only for like content.  Ratios replaced with ratios.  Graphing a ratio would be a different skill and therefore a separate quiz score and not necessarily replace a ratio quiz score.

*Unit tests and finals will not be replaced

    Homework

Time is always given in class to complete assignments. Anything not done in class may be done later that day.

    *Homework is unfinished classroom work.

Assignments are checked the following day - giving extra time to those who need it.

Weekly Assignment Completion grade is given (10 points) and is for finishing assignments completely and on time.

    Completely done 10 points

    Missing/Unfinished work 7 points

Points can go lower than 7 based on the amount of work missing or incomplete.

    iReady

*District-wide expectation to pass assignments weekly

Expectations will be given during class.

    Delta Math

Delta Math is an online practice program.

Students may always (and should!) work to 100%.  If a problem is missed, additional problems are offered to improve the score.

**The goal is always 100% and the points (10) for Delta are for completing to 100%.

For example, if 1 problem is missed out of 5 that is recorded as 80%.  But the student chooses to work an additional problem until the score reads 100%.

Time is given in class for Delta assignments.  Anything not done to 100% may be done at home later that day.

A monthly score is given for Delta for any assignments during that time frame.
