Family Engagement in TVUSD [As featured at the September 20, 2016 Unit Officers Meeting]
Temecula Valley Council of PTAs has embraced the feeder school concept - the concept of a designated flow from a specific elementary school, to a middle school, to a high school. We believe this is integral to facilitating communication and keeping a continued emphasis on family engagement and involvement no matter what grade level. We have incorporated this concept into our support structure for units with some success, and this concept is blossoming District-wide! It's about more than just feeder schools - its about taking information and ensuring it reaches our parents in a way that ensures our families are reached, and their valuable time used effectively and efficiently!
Principal on Special Assignment, Gil Compton, and his team (along with TVC PTA President, Rebecca Weersing), have been working together to bring this new program to our families - regional meetings to provide information to all grade levels cohesively and systematically - and PTA needs to participate and be represented in communicating this message!
If you were unable to attend the TVC PTA Executive Officers meeting on September 20, please ensure that you visit our website to view the slideshow regarding the importance of family engagement, and where the focus will be! Also, please make sure that representatives from your unit attend the upcoming Community Action Partners (CAP) meetings so that your unit stays involved in TVUSD. We are all working together for the same purpose - to better the lives of all children, and to help each child make their potential a reality.
Regardless of your respective region, please consider attending at least one of these meetings to ensure that you do not miss out on valuable information!

PUBLIC FORUM FOR TVUSD SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED
September 26, 2016 – Temecula, CA – To help voters make informed decisions in the first by-trustee area election scheduled for the Temecula Valley Unified School District (TVUSD) Governing Board, the Temecula Valley Council of PTAs (TVC PTA) will sponsor a Meet the Candidates Forum, a nonpartisan, public event, on Monday, October 3, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., at the City of Temecula Conference Center, City Council Chambers, 41000 Main Street, Temecula. In Trustee Area 1, Lee Darling ran uncontested and has been declared the winner by default. His name will not be on the official ballot. In Trustee Area 5, incumbent Dr. Kristi Rutz-Robbins faces challenger Ronald (Ron) Prentice. Each panelist will present opening and closing statements and will field questions. Roland Skumawitz, former superintendent, Romoland School District, will serve as moderator.
The public is encouraged to come learn more about the candidates. “TVC PTA has sponsored a school board candidates’ forum for over 20 years. We’re proud of our schools, and we want parents to understand how they can have a say in the work that the governing board does,” said TVC PTA President Rebecca Weersing. “It’s important for voters to be familiar with candidates and to be informed. We urge citizens of all ages to come out and hear what the candidates have to say and, most importantly, to exercise their civic responsibility and vote on November 8,” she added.
Voter registration materials will be available at the event. In California, October 24 is the last day to register to vote in the November 8 election.
