Because Nice Matters Week

Because Nice Matters!

All it takes is one voice...

One voice, added to a thousand others, becomes a roar...

                Let's raise our voices together!

Together, we will change the world, and stamp out bullying!

What is "Because Nice Matters Week?"

Originating in 2012 as a district-wide TVUSD program, "Because Nice Matters Week" is a campaign designed to educate students about the harmful effects of bullying, to promote kindness and compassion, and encouraging each student to take stand and have a voice in making each campus a "Bully-Free Zone." The brainchild of Great Oak High School Assistant Principal Judy Stapleton, "Because Nice Matters Week" had an inaugural run at Great Oak High School in 2011 before expanding to every campus in the Temecula Valley Unified District. After five successful years, in 2016 it has become a powerful, city-wide movement celebrating and embracing every individual's right to exercise kindness, compassion, and generosity.

Taking place in the last full week of September, each school site has the freedom to create activities that will best reach their students over the course of the week, there are two activities in which all campuses will participate: on Thursday, all students are asked to wear purple and/or black to signify the physical and psychological bruising caused by bullying. Then, on Friday students are asked to wear white to signify making a fresh start and new beginning as a bully-free school.

Together, we can all make change.

Temecula Has Heart...BECAUSE NICE MATTERS!
